Why do women lose their hair?
What are the causes of female hair loss?
There are a number of reasons why women might be experiencing hair loss, but the good news is that correct diagnosis of the underlying cause can result in a reversal of hair thinning.
Genetics; this might be the result of a sensitivity to the male hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) that causes androgenetic alopecia. This can be inherited from either your mother or father’s side of the family.
Stress; a stressful episode can interrupt the hair growth cycle, causing a number of hair follicles to enter the resting phase at the same time.
Diet; nutrition can play an important role in your hair health and nutritional deficiencies can result in hair loss.
Medications; steroids, birth control and many prescription medicines can produce temporary or permanent hair loss.
Health; conditions such as autoimmune diseases, thyroid problems and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) can all cause hair loss.
